There is no typical, I work with sole traders and companies and some times trusts. Some of my clients are husband and wife teams, some are just starting out and some have 30 employees with a team in the financial office. Bookkeeping can be training others so they can do the work themselves or it can be just doing the accounts payable and bank reconciliation. Sometimes I am in the file weekly and sometimes just once per BAS quarter, which ever is more appropriate for the business.
With a little technology your bookkeeper can be anywhere in the world, but I like being a small business helping small business so I mostly work in the Fraser Coast. For training, most software now works in real time so we can be on the phone and I can see what you have done or uploaded then talk you through a procedure or correction, and later email you a step by step instruction page to refer to.
